Al-Hindiya or Hindiya is a city in Iraq on the Euphrates River. Nouri al Maliki went to school there in his younger days. Al-Hindiya is located in the Kerbala Governorate. The city used to be known as Tuwairij, which gives name to the "Tuwairij run" that takes place here every year as part of the Mourning of Muharram on the Day of Ashura.

The distance between the shrines of ‘Abbās and Husayn, are the same as the distance between the hills of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah. The tomb of Hussein ibn Ali is one of the holiest places for Shias outside of Mecca and Medina, and many make pilgrimages to the site.
