Doon, County Offaly

Doon is a small hamlet in the North-West Corner of County Offaly, Ireland. The doon landscape is dominated by The ruins of the castle of Esker, which stands on a sandy ridge north of Doon crossroads. A short distance to the east of the crossroads stands the ruin of an ancient building know locally as 'the monastery'. It was the private religious house attached to the castle.

Athlone

Athlone (Irish: Baile Átha Luain, meaning "town of Luan's ford") is a town on the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree in Ireland. Athlone is the Capital of the Midlands Region and is "the commercial capital of the Irish Midlands" as described by IDA Ireland. The town is governed by an elected town council, which appoints a Mayor. It is on the border of counties Roscommon and Westmeath.

Portlick Castle

Portlick Castle is a medieval tower house castle near the 21st century village of Glasson, County Westmeath, Ireland some 6 miles from Athlone on the shores of Lough Ree. It comprises a square medieval 4-storey stone tower with an attached 2-storey Georgian wing and Victorian tower. It is the only medieval castle that has seen consistent use from the time of its occupancy in 1185 to the present day.
