Scoglitti

Scoglitti is a small fishing village near the town of Vittoria on the south coast of Sicily. In addition to its fishing industry, the village derives a substantial part of its income from tourism. The village hosts a daily fishing auction, and annual events such as the Festival of St Francesco, and the procession of the Virgine dif Portosalvo.

Kamarina, Sicily

Kamarina is an ancient city of Sicily, southern Italy, situated on the south coast, about 27 kilometers south east of Gela (Terranova). It was founded by Syracuse in 599 BC, but destroyed by the mother city in 552 BC. Its remains are today in the municipality of Ragusa. The Geloans, however, founded it anew in 461 BC. It seems to have been in general hostile to Syracuse, but, though an ally of Athens in 427 BC, it gave some slight help to Syracuse in 415–413 BC.

Dirillo

The Dirillo, or Acate, is a 54 kilometres river in Sicily which springs from the Hyblaean Mountains and flows through the areas of Vizzini, Licodia Eubea, Mazzarrone, Chiaramonte Gulfi, Acate, Vittoria, Gela. It enters the Strait of Sicily south-east of the town of Gela. As the largest river in the area it is sometimes known as the Fiume Grande. The river was known in antiquity as the Achates. Theophrastus in his treatise On Stones (ca. 315 B.C.

487th Air Expeditionary Wing

The 487th Air Expeditionary Wing (487 AEW) is a provisional United States Air Force unit assigned to the United States Air Forces in Europe. As a provisional unit, it may be activated or inactivated at any time. The unit's last known assignment was in 2003 at Cairo West Airfield, Egypt, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was commanded by Brig. Gen. Randal D. "Randy" Fullhart (March 2003 – May 2003).
