Ural River

Bolshiye Peshnyye Islands

The Bolshiye Peshnyye Islands (Ostrova Bol'shiye Peshnyye) is a group of two small islands in the Caspian Sea. It is located 7 km off the coast, 15 km SSE of Peshnoy. The Bolshiye Peshnyye Islands are 2.5 km away from each other. The northern island has a length of 2 km and a maximum width of 0.7 km. The crescent-shaped southern island is 3.2 km long and only 400 m wide on average. Administratively the Bolshiye Peshnyye Islands belong to the Atyrau Province of Kazakhstan.

Atyrau

Atyrau, known as Guryev until 1991, is a transcontinental city in Kazakhstan, and the capital of Atyrau Province. It is located at the mouth of the Ural River, 2700 kilometers west of Almaty and 350 kilometers east of the Russian city of Astrakhan. Other transliterations include Aterau, Atirau, Atyraw, Atyraou, Atırav, Atıraw. Modern Atyrau is famous for its oil and fish industries.
