Lake Alūksne

Lake Alūksne is located in Alūksne Municipality, Latvia. The city of Alūksne is located by the lake. The lake has four islands. The ruins of a historical Alūksne Castle are on the largest island (called Castle Island or St. Mary Island, because the castle was originally called Marienburg, "St. Mary Castle"). Alūksne River (a tributary of Pededze) flows out of the lake.

Alūksne district was an administrative division of Latvia, located in Vidzeme region, in the country's north-east, 202 km from the capital city Riga.
