Rissani
Rissani is a town in eastern Morocco, located near Erfoud. It is in the region of Er-Rachidia, and is the closest town of significant size to the Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in Morocco. Its population in 2004 was 20,469. The mausoleum of the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty of Morocco, Moulay Ali Cherif, is located on the southern edge of town.

Arfoud
Erfoud is an oasis town in the Sahara Desert, in the Meknès-Tafilalet of the Maghreb region in eastern Morocco. Erfoud is divided into several districts: Hay Salam, Hay Jdid, Hay Ziz, Hay el Bathaa, Hay Annahda, Hay el Hamri. Due to its proximity to Merzouga desert village in the Erg Chebbi Dunes, Erfoud has developed tourist related infrastructures such as hotels and restaurants.

Erg Chebbi
Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco's two Saharan ergs – large dunes formed by wind-blown sand. The other is Erg Chigaga near M'hamid. The dunes of Erg Chebbi reach a height of up to 150 meters and altogether spans an area of 22 kilometers from north to south and up to 5-10 kilometers from east to west. The nearest sizable town is Erfoud, about 60 kilometers further north.
