Ruvuma River

Ruvuma River, formerly also known as the Rovuma River, is a river in East Africa, forming during the greater part of its course the border between Tanzania and Mozambique (in Mozambique known as Rio Rovuma). It is 800 kilometres long, with a drainage basin 155,500 square kilometres in size. Its mean annual discharge is 475 m³/s at its mouth.

Mozambique Channel

The Mozambique Channel is a portion of the Indian Ocean located between Madagascar and Mozambique. It was a World War II clashpoint during the Battle of Madagascar. The channel is approximately 460 km across at its narrowest point between Angoche, Mozambique, and Tambohorano, Madagascar. The channel reaches a depth of 3,292 m (10,800 feet) about 230 km off the coast of Mozambique.

Kionga Triangle

The Kionga Triangle was a small territory on the border between German East Africa (largely overlapping present-day Tanzania) and the Portuguese colony of Portuguese Mozambique, totalling just 1000 km² (400 mi²). Originally, the Germans established this as their outpost south of the Rovuma River, and there was a settlement called Kionga of 4,000 inhabitants (1910), now Quionga. But in 1916, during World War I, the Portuguese occupied it.
