1975 Dutch train hostage crisis

On December 2, 1975, seven South Moluccan terrorists seized a train with about 50 passengers on board in open countryside near the village of Wijster, halfway between Hoogeveen and Beilen in the northern part of the Netherlands. The hijacking lasted for 12 days and three hostages were killed. The attackers came from a village where a few years later a primary school was seized. The attackers hid their weapons disguised as presents for the Sinterklaas holiday on December 5.

ASTRON

ASTRON is the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy. Its main office is in Dwingeloo in the National Park Dwingelderveld in the province of Drenthe. ASTRON is part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

Dwingeloo Radio Observatory

The Dwingeloo Radio Observatory, is a single-dish radio telescope with a diameter of 25 m. Construction started in 1954, and the telescope was completed in 1956. At that time it was the largest radio telescope in the world. As of 2000, it was no longer in operation in an official capacity and since August 2009 is officially a Dutch industrial heritage monument. Het Oude Jachthuis is a restaurant located in Eursinge, near Pesse, in the Netherlands. It was a former fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in the period 1966-1980. Arnold van Doesburg was the head chef and owner of the restaurant in the period 1960-2005. Het Oude Jachthuis, represented by Arnold van Doesburg, was one of the founders of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise The family Van Doesburg still runs Het Oude Jachthuis, but added a Bed and Breakfast in 2005.
