Harkstede
Harkstede is a small village in Slochteren, Groningen (province), the Netherlands. Its name is "Haarkstee" in the local dialect, the Gronings. The name is probably meant as "Arkes Stee", which means "pleace for a ark = church". Harkstede has about 3000 inhabitants, what makes it one of the smaller villages in the area. This number will increase in the near future, because of the "Meerstad-project" of the City of Groningen, meaning hundreds of new homes will be built in and around Harkstede.

Bevrijdingsbos
The Bevrijdingsbos (Liberation forest) is a forest on the edge of the city of Groningen between the district Lewenborg and the village of Garmerwolde in the Netherlands. The forest was planted in 1995 to commemorate the 50th year of liberation of the Netherlands by the Canadian Army in 1945. The forest is an acknowledgement and tribute to the Canadian armed forces who liberated Groningen in April 1945.
