Lake Ruataniwha
Lake Ruataniwha is located in the Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand's South Island. An artificial lake, it was formed as part of the Waitaki hydroelectric project. It lies on the traditional boundary of the Canterbury and Otago provinces with the town of Twizel two kilometres to the north. It is named after Ruataniwha Station, a large sheep station in the area, part of which was purchased by the NZ Electricity Department as the site for the township of Twizel.

Benmore Peak
Benmore Peak is the highest point of the Benmore Range, an island range located in the southern half of the Mackenzie Basin, South Island, New Zealand. The 28 km (17½ mile) by 16 km Benmore Range is aligned approximately north–south and situated between the small town of Twizel at the northern end and the village of Omarama at the south-western end. The Benmore Range is bordered by Lake Benmore to the south and the Haldon Arm of Lake Benmore to the east.

Twizel River
The Twizel River is a river of the Mackenzie Basin, in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand's South Island. It is part of the Waitaki River system. The Twizel River has its origins in numerous streams which flow down the eastern flanks of the Ben Ohau Range, the longest of which are the Gladstone Stream and the Duncan Stream. The Twizel River flows south, veering slowly southeast close to the town of Twizel. From here it flows into the northern end of the artificial lake, Lake Benmore.

Lake Ohau
Lake Ohau is a glacial lake in the Mackenzie Basin of New Zealand's South Island. It is fed by the Hopkins and Dobson rivers, which have their headwaters in the Southern Alps, and has its outflow in the Ohau River, which itself feeds into the Waitaki River hydroelectric project. Ohau is the smallest of three roughly parallel lakes running north-south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin. It covers 60 km². The Ohau ski field is located close to the southwestern shore of the lake.
