Glencoe, New Zealand

Glencoe is a locality in the central Southland Region of New Zealand's South Island. Named after Glen Coe (or in Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Comhan) in Scotland, it is situated in the Hokonui Hills on the route of State Highway 96 as it travels between Hedgehope and Waitane. The nearest town of significant size is Mataura to the east, while the city of Invercargill is to the southwest. In February 1999, a cairn was dedicated in Glencoe to commemorate the 1692 Massacre of Glencoe.

Hedgehope, New Zealand

Hedgehope is a locality in the central Southland region of New Zealand's South Island. Located in the Hokonui Hills, Winton is to the west, Mataura to the east, and Mabel Bush to the south . The nearest city is Invercargill, over 25 km to the southwest. New Zealand State Highway 96 passes through Hedgehope as it travels between Springhills and Glencoe. Hedgehope was also once the terminus of the Hedgehope Branch railway.

Mataura

Mataura is a town in the Southland region of the South Island of New Zealand. Mataura has a meat processing plant, and until 2000 it was the site of a large pulp and paper mill. Mataura is also the setting for Dunedin crime fiction author Vanda Symon's debut novel, Overkill.

Dacre, New Zealand

Dacre is the name of a small town in the South Island of New Zealand. It is situated on the Southland Plains between Invercargill and Edendale on State Highway 1. In Dacre, SH 1 is met by New Zealand State Highway 98 (Lorne Dacre Road), which runs west to Makarewa via Rakahouka. Nearby villages include Mabel Bush to the northwest and Woodlands to the southeast. The Main South Line railway passes just to the south of Dacre. It is a dairy farming community.

Springhills

Springhills is a locality in the central Southland region of New Zealand's South Island. Situated in a gap between Forest Hill and the Hokonui Hills, it is located on State Highway 96 29 kilometres west of State Highway 1 near Mataura and 15 kilometres east of State Highway 6 at Winton. From 1899 until 1953, Springhills was also served by a branch line railway.
