Kopuatai Peat Dome

The Kopuatai Peat Dome is a wetland on the Hauraki Plains in New Zealand. The 10,201 ha wetland was listed under the Ramsar Convention in 1989 as a Wetland of International Importance. It is one of only three rare New Zealand examples of a resiad wetland, those containing the botanical Family Restionaceae. It survived extensive draining of the wetlands on the Hauraki Plains and was given protection in 1987 when it came under the administration of the newly formed Department of Conservation.

Hauraki District

The Hauraki District Council is a municipality in the Waikato Region of New Zealand. The seat of the council is at Paeroa. The area covered by the district extends from the southwest coast of the Firth of Thames southeast towards Te Aroha, although that town lies beyond its boundaries. It extends eastwards to the Bay of Plenty coast, taking in the southernmost part of the Coromandel Peninsula. The rest of the peninsula is part of the Thames-Coromandel district.

The Waikato region is a local government region of the upper North Island of New Zealand. It covers the Waikato, Hauraki, Coromandel Peninsula, the northern King Country, much of the Taupo District, and parts of Rotorua District. It is governed by the Waikato Regional Council.

Ngatea

Ngatea is a small town on the Hauraki Plains in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 18 kilometres southwest of Thames and 70 kilometres southeast of Auckland. Ngatea lies on the Piako River, eight kilometres south of its outflow into the Firth of Thames. Ngatea is the 'service centre' for the farming area of the Hauraki Plains.

Ohinemuri River

The Ohinemuri River is located in the north of New Zealand's North Island. The river source is north-east of the town of Waihi, close to the shore of the Bay of Plenty, but flows west rather than into the bay. It runs through the steep-sided Karangahake Gorge, forming a break between the Coromandel Range and the Kaimai Ranges. After 28 kilometres, it joins the Waihou River near the town of Paeroa, 20 kilometres south of the Firth of Thames, into which the Waihou empties.
