Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte

Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte (Spanish for "North Atlantic Autonomous Region"), sometimes shortened to RAAN, is one of two autonomous regions in Nicaragua. It covers an area of 32,159 km² and has a population of 249,700 (2005 census). It is the largest autonomous region or department in Nicaragua. The capital is Puerto Cabezas.

Puerto Cabezas

Puerto Cabezas (English: Bragman's Bluff; Miskito: Bilwi) is a municipality in, and capital of, the North Atlantic Coast department of Nicaragua. The municipality and the entire region are indigenous lands. The city of Bilwi is part of The Community of Karata, including land north of Bilwi, which borders The Community of Ten Communities.

SS Norlantic

SS Norlantic was an American cargo ship of the Norlasco Steamship Company of New York that was scuttled after being damaged by German submarine U-69 in May 1942 with the loss of seven lives. The ship was built as SS Lake Fandango, a Design 1099 ship of the United States Shipping Board, in 1919 and had also sailed under the name SS Lexington.

Wawa River (Nicaragua)

The Wawa River (also known as Rio Wawa or Rio Hauhau) is a river located in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region of Nicaragua that drains to the Caribbean Sea. It flows southeast through northeast Nicaragua to the Mosquito Coast (or Miskito Coast) region. The river joins Laguna de Karata, south of Puerto Cabezas, before exiting to the Caribbean Sea.
