Morrito
Morrito is a municipality in the Río San Juan department of Nicaragua. As of 2009 the current mayor is Eda Medina. The total population of the municipality is approximately 1,700 “town” residents and 5,000 rural inhabitants, with includes a total of about 3,000 people under the age of 16 years old (Morrito, 2002). The main pueblo, also named Morrito, has a population of 1,700 living in 250 houses (Eda, 2008). Other estimates put the population at 1,958 residents (OPS, 2008).

Nicaragua Canal
This article documents the historical inter-oceanic canal, not to be confused with the smaller Ecocanal project - a shallow draft waterway to link the Lake of Nicaragua to the Caribbean - see Ecocanal. The Inter-Oceanic Nicaragua Canal is a proposed waterway through Nicaragua to connect the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. Such a canal would follow rivers up to Lake Nicaragua and then 10+km through the isthmus of Rivas to reach the Pacific.
