The ski resort at Geilo is situated just north of the river, about halfway down Ustedalen valley. The valley stretches about 20 km east from Ustevatn and meetings Holsdalføret below Hagafoss. In 1965 almost all the waters of the Usta was diverted due to the construction of Usta Hydroelectric Power Station.

is a centre in the municipality of Hol in Norway, in the valley of Hallingdal, with around 2300 inhabitants. The Bergen Line facilitated Geilo's development as the first skiing resort in the country, and it is still one of the largest. It is also famous for having some of the most luxurious and expensive holiday cabins in Norway. Geilo is primarily a ski resort town, but also offers summer activities. Geilo is in a valley with mountain ranges on each side.
