The Battle of Alvøen was a sea battle of the Gunboat War between Denmark-Norway and the United Kingdom. It was fought on 16 May 1808 in Vatlestraumen, outside Bergen in Norway, between the British frigate HMS Tartar and a Norwegian force consisting of four kanonjolles and one kanonsjalupps (collectively known as gunboats).

Bjorøy Tunnel
The Bjorøy Tunnel is a 2,012-metre long subsea road tunnel connecting Bjorøy in Fjell to the mainland at Hilleren in Bergen, Norway. A part of Hordaland County Road 207, it crosses underneath Vatlestraumen, reaching 88 metres below mean sea level. It serves as a fixed link for 500 people on Bjorøy and Tyssøy, in addition to a similar number of cottage owners. The first proposal was launched in 1980, and construction started on 29 September 1993.

Sotra Bridge
The Sotra Bridge is a suspension bridge which crosses Knarreviksundet between Knarrevik in Fjell and Drotningsvik on the mainland of Bergen in Hordaland, Norway. It carries two road lanes and two narrow pedestrian paths of National Road 555, providing a fixed link for the archipelago of Sotra. The bridge is 1,236 metres long, has a main span of 468 metres and a clearance of 50 metres . In 2007, it had an average 25,494 vehicles per day.
