Varaldsøy

Varaldsøy is a former municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. Varaldsøy is an island (Varaldsøyna) in the Hardangerfjord in western Kvinnherad. The village of Varaldsøy is located on the island. It was declared to be a municipality by a split from Strandebarm on 1 January 1902. At that time Varaldsøy had a population of 1,661. On 1 January 1965 a part of the district of Mundheim with 300 inhabitants was incorporated into Kvam municipality.

Hardangerfjord

With a length of 179 km, the Hardangerfjord in the county of Hordaland in Norway is the third largest fjord in the world and the second largest in Norway. The surrounding district is called Hardanger. The Hardangerfjord starts at the Atlantic Ocean just south of Bergen (SW Norway). Here the fjord penetrates in a north easterly direction until it meets the grand mountain plateau of Hardangervidda.

Mundheim

Mundheim is a village in southern Kvam municipality, Norway. From 1837 Mundheim was administratively a part of Strandebarm. On 1 January 1902 Varaldsøy was separated from Strandebarm to create a separate municipality. The municipality consisted of the island Varaldsøy as well as the mainland district of Mundheim. On 1 January 1964 Mundheim was moved to Kvam whereas the rest of Varaldsøy became a part of Kvinnherad. The part of Mundheim which joined Kvam had 300 inhabitants.
