Strandvik was separated from Fusa January 1, 1903, at which time the population was 1,896. It was again merged with Fusa on January 1, 1964 at which time it had a population was 2,053. Strandvik faces south towards the Bjørnafjorden, a main thoroughfare for shipping on the coast which lies south of Bergen between the municipalities Os, Tysnes, Austevoll and Fusa.
