The church is part of the Melbu parish in the Vesterålen deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white church was built in 1914 to serve the southern part of Hadsel (on Austvågøya island). It seats about 100 people. It was also used as a school for many years, but the school closed in 1990.

Hadselfjorden or Hadselfjord is a fjord (or more accurately a strait) in Vesterålen, Norway. The fjord is separates the island of Hadseløya (on the north and west side of the fjord) from the islands of Austvågøya and Hinnøya island (on the south and east side of the fjord). In the northeast, the Hadselfjorden connects with Sortlandssund strait, which separates the islands of Langøya and Hinnøya.
