Sand, Rogaland

Sand is a village and former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The municipality was created by a split from Jelsa in 1859. At that time Sand had 1,600 inhabitants. On 1 January 1965 Sand was incorporated into the neighboring municipality Suldal. Prior to the merger Sand had 1,135 inhabitants. The village Sand has a population of 1,157. It is the administrative centre of Suldal municipality.

Suldalslågen

The Suldalslågen (or Lågen) river is located in Rogaland County in southwest Norway. Suldalslågen has a natural watershed of 1463 km² of which 75% is above timberline in high mountain areas, making it western Norway's largest river. The Suldalslågen and upstream watercourse is heavily dammed and regulated (including transfer of water across catchmetn borders) for hydroelectric power generation, and represents ~6% of Norway's total hydroelectric power generation.

Hylsfjord

Hylsfjord is a fjord in the municipality Suldal in Rogaland, Norway. It is a 20 km long branch of the fjord Boknafjord. The Hylen Hydroelectric Power Station is located in the inner end of Hylsfjord.

Saudafjord

Saudafjord (or Saudafjorden, the suffix "-en" is a form of the definite article in the Norwegian language) is a fjord which stretches from Sandsfjorden in Suldal, a municipality in the county of Rogaland Norway. It extends to the municipality and central town, Sauda. Saudafjorden is an outlying fjord among the numerous fjords opening to the sea at Boknafjord, and stretches furthest north in Rogaland. Saudafjord is an open, wide fjord with a depth approaching 400 meters.

Erfjord

Erfjord is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It was created when the municipality Jelsa was split in two on January 1, 1914. Erfjord had 617 inhabitants by the time of the creation. On January 1, 1965 Erfjord (then with 610 inhabitants) was merged with Sand and Suldal as well as parts of Jelsa and Imsland. The new municipality was named Suldal.
