Årdal, Rogaland

Årdal is a former municipality in Rogaland County, Norway. Dating from 1837, Årdal was a part of Hjelmeland formannskapsdistrikt, but it became a municipality of its own in 1859. On 1 January 1965 the majority of Årdal, with 743 inhabitants, became a part of Hjelmeland municipality once again. At the same time the Sunngardene district with 121 inhabitants were moved to Strand municipality.

Fister

Fister is a small village near Stavanger in the Hjelmeland municipality on the south-western Norwegian coast. Fister has the highest average temperature in Norway. It is visited by many tourists each year. There are no big tourist attractions except for the beautiful nature, fishing in the fjords, lots of peace and quiet, and until its recent death a parrot in a tree. Fister used to be a municipality of its own, created when Hjelmeland og Fister was split on July 1, 1884.

Holtaheia Accident

The Holtaheia Accident was a controlled flight into terrain accident on 9 August 1961 at Holta in Strand, Norway. The Eagle Airways Vickers 610 Viking 3B Lord Rodney was en route from London, United Kingdom to Stavanger Airport, Sola on an AIR Tours charter flight taking a school group for a camping holiday. The aircraft was making an instrument landing when it crashed 54 km northeast of Stavanger. The accident killed all 39 people on board.

Randøy Bridge

Randøy Bridge is a suspension bridge in Hjelmeland municipality in Rogaland. The bridge crosses Ølesundet and links Randøy to the mainland. The bridge measures 202 metres, and was opened in 1976. It is part of Fv650.
