Kvaløya (Northern Sami: Sállir; lit. "Whale Island") is an island in the Norwegian municipality of Tromsø. It has an area of 737 square kilometres, making it the fifth largest island in mainland Norway. It is connected to the neighboring island of Tromsøya to the east by the Sandnessund Bridge, to Ringvassøya to the north by the sub-sea Kvalsund Tunnel, to Sommarøy to the west by the Sommarøy Bridge, and to the mainland to the south by the Rya Tunnel.

Kaldfjorden, Troms
Kaldfjorden is a fjord on the west coast of the island of Kvaløya in the municipality of Tromsø in Troms county, Norway. The 16-kilometre long fjord stretches from the island of Vengsøya to the village of Kaldfjord. The 1,044-metre tall Store Blåmann mountain is located on the eastern shore of the fjord. The fjord cuts the island of Kvaløya nearly in half, leaving a 950-metre wide isthmus where the villages of Kaldfjord and Kjosen are partially located.

Rya Tunnel
The Rya Tunnel (Norwegian: Ryaforbindelsen or Ryatunnelen) is a subsea road tunnel which links the island of Kvaløya to the Malangshalvøya peninsula. Located along Norwegian County Road 858, the tunnel runs under Straumsfjorden between the villages of Larseng and Balsnes. The 2,675-metre long tunnel reaches a maximum depth of 87 metres below mean sea level and has a maximum grade of 7.8%.
