University Of Nizwa

The University of Nizwa was established in 2002 by the Decree of His Majesty the Sultan Qaboos as the first non-profit university in the Sultanate of Oman; it remains the only institution of its kind in the nation. Upon the satisfaction of all requirements set forth by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Higher Education Council, the University of Nizwa was granted legal status by ministerial decision No. 1/2004 on January 3, 2004.

Birkat Al-Mawz

Birkat Al-Mawz is a village in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region of Oman. It is located at the entrance of Wadi al-Muaydin on southern rim of Jebel Akhdar and home to a restored fort called Bait al Redidah. A road and a walking route through Wadi al-Muaydin up to the Saiq Plateau start from here.

Nizwa Sports Complex

Nizwa Sports Complex is a multi-use stadium in Nizwa, Oman. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Al-Nahda of the Omani League. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.

Nizwa

Nizwa is the largest city in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region in Oman and was the capital of Oman proper. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 70,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning.

Oman proper

Oman proper refers a historical area within the present-day Sultanate of Oman. It lay inland from Muscat beyond the Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountains) and was centered on the city of Nizwa in the area of the current region of Ad Dakhiliyah. Along with Muscat and Dhofar, it was a constituent part of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman but with the 1970 palace coup, the term Oman alone was applied to the entire country.
