Before the partition of united India, there were six tribes of local Banochi Afgahns (Pashtoons) which still reside in the town. These are Ambar, Twayeb, Jahan Shah Khel, Aman Khel, Pila Khel and Rustum. Two other tribes, Peer Khel and Baghbans also reside in the area together with these tribes.
