It was shaped as a lake by the British in 1913, before constructing Nammal Dam. When the British announced Mianwali would be a district in 1904. To fulfill water requirements of the city and surroundings, they planned to use water of Nammal Lake. The Mountain range in this area was naturally favourable to make Nammal Lake.
