The 2003 Puerto Armuelles earthquake occurred on December 25, 2003 at 02:11 local time . The epicenter was located in Panama, at about 7 km east of Puerto Armuelles, near the Panama-Costa Rica border. The earthquake had a magnitude of Mw 6.5. Two people were reported dead in Puerto Armuelles. There was building damage in Panama and Costa Rica. Power outage lasted for about 4 hours in Puerto Armuelles. The maximal intensity was MM VIII in Finca Naranjo, Costa Rica.

Puerto Armuelles, Chiriquí

Puerto Armuelles is a city on Panama's Pacific Coast in the western province of Chiriquí Province next to Costa Rica. Puerto Armuelles is the second largest city in Chiriqui province with a population near 25,000, and has not one, but two different type of deep-water ports, one for Bananas and one for oil. Puerto Armuelles is just 5 miles from the border with Costa Rica as the crow flies yet the actual border crossing lies 21 miles away.

Burica Peninsula

The Peninsula Burica is a coastal relief that juts south into the Pacific Ocean and is divided into two areas: it belongs to Costa Rica west, and the area that belongs to Panama, which dominates the east and about two-thirds of the peninsula. The Costa Rican side is the southernmost of the country (except for the island of Coco).
