Mercedes, Eastern Samar

Mercedes is a 4th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 6,005 people in 945 households. Guiuan, Eastern Samar

Guiuan is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. As of the year 2004, it had a population of 43,169 people in 7,618 households. Guiuan played a significant part in Philippine history. In the 16th century, when Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines, it is believed that he first landed on the island of Homonhon. It is probably because of this that the majority of the population of the town are Catholics.
