It has a population of 1,593 and lies near the border with the Czech Republic, 10 kilometers south from seat County- Wodzisław Śląski. It was the location of the Polenlager 169, a Nazi concentration camp of Polenlager type, i.e. , primarily for Poles. It held the deported Poles who didn't sign a volkslist. It was operated on the base of the "Fryderyk" coal mine facilities in 1942–1945 in Kolonia Fryderyk.
