Block 10

During the Holocaust, Block 10 was a cellblock at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp where women and men were used as experimental subjects for German doctors. The experiments in Block 10 ranged from skin testing for reaction to relatively gentle substances to giving phenol injections to the heart for immediate dissection. Although Block 10 was in the men's camps, the experiments conducted were mostly for women. To please the “elite” prisoners, the Germans would house prostitutes in Block 10.

Rudolf Höss

Rudolf Franz Ferdinand Höss (which can also be spelled Höß, Hoess, and even Hoeß); 25 November 1901 – 16 April 1947) was an SS-Obersturmbannführer (lieutenant colonel), and from 4 May 1940 to November 1943 was the commandant of Auschwitz concentration camp, where it is estimated that more than a million people were murdered. Höss joined the Nazi Party in 1922 and the SS in 1934. He was hanged in 1947 following a trial in Warsaw.

Oświęcim Synagogue

The Oświęcim Synagogue, also called the Auschwitz Synagogue, is the only active synagogue in the town of Oświęcim, Poland. The formal, as well as pre-war, name of the synagogue is Khevre Loymdei Mishnayos . It is now part of the Auschwitz Jewish Center, which includes a Jewish Museum and an Education Center.
