It lies approximately 4 kilometres south-east of Mikołajki, 24 km south-east of Mrągowo, and 75 km east of the regional capital Olsztyn. It is close to and shares its name with Łuknajno Lake, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar site. Before 1945 the area was part of Germany.
