Oboyan

Oboyan is a town and the administrative center of Oboyansky District of Kursk Oblast, Russia, located 60 kilometers south of Kursk on the right bank of the Psyol River at its confluence with the Oboyanka River. Population: 13,565; 14,618; 15,360. Oboyan was founded in 1639 as a fortress on the southern borders of the Russian state. It was granted town status in 1779.

Oboyansky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the twenty-eight in Kursk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the south of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,090 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Oboyan. Population: 31,042; 35,815; 39,663. The population of Oboyan accounts for 43.7% of the district's total population.
