Biryuch

Biryuch is a town and the administrative center of Krasnogvardeysky District of Belgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the bank of the Tikhaya Sosna River. Population: 7,846; 8,079; 8,526. It was founded on March 7, 1705 by Ivan Medkov, a Cossack sotnik, as Biryuchenskoye Komissarstvo (Бирю́ченское Комисса́рство), and was granted town status in 1779. On January 27, 1919, it was renamed Budyonny (Будённый), after Semyon Budyonny.

2011 Antonov An-148 crash

On 5 March 2011, an Antonov An-148 crashed at Garbuzovo, Alexeyevsky Region, Belgorod Oblast, Russia, killing all six crew members. The aircraft was operating a test flight prior to delivery to the Myanmar Air Force. Witnesses reported that a wing had detached from the aircraft while in flight.
