Zhukovsky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the twenty-seven in Bryansk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,114 square kilometers . Its administrative center is the town of Zhukovka. Population: 36,983; 39,770; 36,812. The population of Zhukovka accounts for 49.4% of the district's total population.

Vshchizh

Vshchizh was an old Russian town on the Desna River between the 11th and 13th centuries. Vshchizh was first mentioned in a chronicle of 1142. In the mid-12th century, it was an appanage town of Prince Svyatoslav Vladimirovich. In 1238, Vshchizh was destroyed by the Mongols. As a result of the excavations in the 1840s and then in 1940 and 1948–1949, they found the remnants of different buildings and fortifications and a number of artifacts.
