Sunzha River

The Sunzha is a river in North Ossetia, Ingushetia and Chechnya, Russia, a right tributary of Terek River. It is 278 km long. The Sunzha rises on the Northern slope of the Caucasus Major. Its major tributaries are the Assa River and Argun River. With a turbidity of 3,800 g/m³, it carries 12,2 million tons of alluvium per year. It is used for irrigation. Cities which lie on the Sunzha include Nazran, Karabulak, Grozny (the capital of Chechnya), and Gudermes.

2008 Chechnya earthquake

The 2008 Chechnya earthquake was a 5.8 Mw earthquake that occurred on October 11, 2008 at 09:06:10 UTC in Chechnya, Russia, and lasted for 40 seconds. At least 13 people from the districts of Gudermes, Shalinsky and Kurchaloyevsky were killed by the quake and a series of aftershocks, which were felt throughout the North Caucasus, and even in Armenia and Georgia. In addition, about 116 people were injured.

Oyskhara

Oyskhara is an urban locality in Gudermessky District of the Chechen Republic, Russia. Population: 9,489; 12,767. Until 1989, it was called Novogroznensky. It was the site of fighting between Chechen Rebels and Russian soldiers in the First Chechen War.
