Loukhi

Loukhi is an urban locality and the administrative center of Loukhsky District of the Republic of Karelia, Russia, located on the shore of Lake Panovo, 500 kilometers north of Petrozavodsk. Population: 4,772; 5,920; 6,405. It was founded in 1912–1914 due to the construction of a railroad. It was granted urban-type settlement status in 1944. In 1978, Korean Air Lines Flight 902 was forced to land at the nearby Korpijärvi Lake after being attacked by Soviet aircraft.
