Battle of Honkaniemi

The Battle of Honkaniemi was fought between Finnish and Soviet forces on 26 February 1940. This battle was fought by tanks, the only time they were used in the Winter War. The commander of the Finnish II Corps, General Harald Öhquist, had attached the Jaeger Battalion 3 and the 4th company of the Armoured Battalion to the 23rd Division. The 23rd was responsible for the area around Lake Näykkijärvi, just to the southeast of Viipuri, the second largest town in Finland.

Vyborg HVDC scheme

The Vyborg HVDC scheme is a system of electricity transmission from the Russian power system to Finland, using high-voltage direct current. It consists of four, 355 MW back-to-back converter blocks, the first three of which were completed in the early 1980s and the last in January 2001. Much of the original converter equipment has been refurbished or modernised.

Vyborg Library

The Municipal Library in Vyborg, Russia, (built during Finnish rule when the city's name was Viipuri in Finnish) is an internationally acclaimed design by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. The library, built in 1933–35 is considered one of the first manifestations of "regional modernism". It is particularly famous for its wave-shaped ceiling in the auditorium, the shape of which, Aalto argued, was based on acoustic studies.

Vyborg Cathedral

Vyborg Cathedral is a former church building in Vyborg, present day Russia, at the time Grand Duchy of Finland and later in independent Finland. It was built in 1893. At first it was called the New Church and after 1908, when the Mikael Agricola statue was erected in front of the church, the Agricola Church. Later it was also called the New Cathedral in order to separate it from the medieval Old Vyborg Cathedral.

Vyborg railway station is a railway station located in the town of Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. The original station building was built in 1913 but was destroyed in the Continuation War. The current station building was built in Soviet times.
