Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi ("Place of many little birds") lies in south western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale close to the border with Rwanda. Located at 1,962 m above sea level, it is about 25 km long and 7 km wide. The depth of the lake is rumored to vary between 44 m and 900 m, which if true would make the lake the second deepest in Africa.

Bufuka

Bufuka Village lies on the eastern coast of Lake Bunyonyi, in Kitumba sub-county seven kilometres out of Kabale town, southwestern Uganda. It is a village of 350 people and has three islands under its jurisdiction. Bufuka has been severely hit by AIDS. The reason for the outbreak was a Uganda Railway's official from Bufuka who took many men to work in the capital, and they brought back the disease. Today, the village is chiefly populated by older women and orphans.

Northern Province, Rwanda

Northern Province is one of Rwanda's five provinces. It was created in early January 2006 as part of a government decentralization program that re-organized the country's local government structures. Northern Province comprises most of the former provinces of Ruhengeri and Byumba, along with northern portions of Kigali Rural. It is divided into the districts of Burera, Gicumbi, Gakenke, Musanze, and Rulindo. The capital city of Northern Province is Musanze.
