White River is a large settlement in the western districts of Honiara, Solomon Islands. It is a fairly large community with several defined neighbourhoods, viz. Centre, and the valleys: Independence Valley, Forestry Valley, Banana Valley, Wind Valley, and Laundry Valley.

Japanese destroyer Makigumo (1942)

Makigumo was a Yūgumo-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her name means "Cirrus Clouds" (Rolling Clouds). Following the Battle of Midway in June 1942, downed American aircrew SBD Ensign Frank W. O'Flaherty and AMM1c Bruno P. Gaido were pulled from the water by Makigumo. After an interrogation, the crew tied weights around Flaherthy's and Gaido's feet and threw them into the Pacific to drown, instead of keeping them prisoner until they reached Japan.

Kokumbona

Kokumbona (also Kakambona) is a village on the island of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. It was a Japanese base during World War II and the site of a United States Marine Corps amphibious landing on 19 August 1942. Located on Guadalcanal's north coast, west of Honiara.

Japanese destroyer Akatsuki

Japanese destroyer Akatsuki was the twenty-first Fubuki-class destroyer, or the lead ship of the Akatsuki-class destroyer (if that sub-class is regarded as a separate class), built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the inter-war period. When introduced into service, these ships were the most powerful destroyers in the world. They remained formidable weapons systems well into the Pacific War.
