Akkaraipattu massacre

Akkaraipattu massacre happened on 19 February 1986 when approximately 80 minority Sri Lankan Tamil farm workers were allegedly killed by the Sri Lankan Army personnel and their bodies burned in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Although the alleged massacre happened on 19 February 1986, the incident came to light only few days later after community leaders visited the remote location near the town of Akkaraipattu, where the farm workers were shot.

Akkaraipattu

Akkaraipattu is a town in the Ampara District of Sri Lanka, and is located along the Eastern coast of the Island. Akkaraipattu consists of over 35,000 people who settled in this area many centuries ago. 99% of the total population is Arab traders who follow the Sunni Sect of Islam. Education and religious are considered as an utmost important factor among the People and educating the children is considered as the primary job of each and every parent.

South Eastern University of Sri Lanka

The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකා අග්නිදිග විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය, Tamil: தென்கிழக்குப் பல்கலைக்கழகம், இலங்கை) (abbreviated SEUSL) is a public university in Oluvil in Sri Lanka. Established in 1995 as a university college, it became a full fledged university in 1996. The university, like all public universities in Sri Lanka, receives the bulk of its funding from the University Grants Commission (UGC), part of the Ministry of Higher Education in Colombo.

Thambiluvil

Thambiluvil is a coastal Town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. It is approximately 8 miles south of Akkaraipattu along east coast. It was under Batticaloa district and now under Ampara district. Thambiluvilites are Tamils, mostly Hindus and their main source income is from farming. Since 1960, people choose educational based employments as alternative income. It is a famous place for the old Tamil cultures and Temples.
