Gotland

Gotland (Gutland in the local language Gutnish, is a province, county, municipality, and diocese of Sweden. It is Sweden's largest island and the largest island in the Baltic Sea. With its total area of 3,140 square kilometers, the island of Gotland and the other areas of the province of Gotland make up less than one percent of Sweden's total land area. The province includes the small islands of Fårö and Gotska Sandön to the north and some tiny islands, including the Karlsö Islands to the west.

Gotland County

Gotland County (Gotlands län) is a county or län of Sweden. Gotland is located in the Baltic Sea to the east of Öland, and is the largest of Sweden's islands. Counties are usually sub-divided into municipalities, but Gotland County only consists of one municipality: Gotland Municipality. Gotland County at present is unique in Sweden as there is no county council. The municipality handles the tasks that otherwise is handled by the county council, mainly health care and public transport.

Källunge church

Källunge church (Källunge kyrka) is a church in the island-bishopric of Visby on Gotland. The parish of Källunge was merged into Gothem parish in 2010. The church is richly decorated with reliefs and frescoes. The frescoes are important evidence of the strong Byzantine influence on Swedish art of the 12th and 13th centuries. An early depiction of a nyckelharpa is found in a relief dating from circa 1350 on one of the gates of the church.

Torsburgen

Torsburgen was an ancient fortress on the Baltic Sea island of Gotland belonging to Sweden. It was originally constructed at the beginning of the 1st century AD. Reinforced during the 4th century, it was in use until c. 1100 AD. A timber-laced stone rampart encircled an area of 12 hectares.

Lojsta Castle

Lojsta Castle (Lojsta slott) was, despite what the name suggests, not a "castle" in the normal sense, i.e. it was not a palacelike manor. It was more of a fortress. In the Middle Ages, Lojsta Castle was a defence-structure, placed on an island in a small lake in the middle of the Swedish island Gotland. The fortress is believed to have been used by the Vitalians who supported the captured Swedish king at the time, Albert of Mecklenburg.
