Gestad

Gestad is a parish in the Dalsland part of Vänersborg Municipality, Sweden, located about 20 km north of the city of Vänersborg and 10 km east of the village Brålanda. The parish includes both farmland and forests. It has its border with the great lake Vänern in the east and is in the middle of Dalbo plain. At the location of a former church (300 m north of the present church) there is a monument in honor to the old church and of Lieutenant General Axel Erik Roos, who is buried on the site.

Erikstad

Erikstad is a small village in the Mellerud Municipality in Västra Götalands län in Sweden. It is located at the E45 road and the Norway/Vänern Line railway. The Erikstad church, built in 1881, is located outside the village and there is an abandoned church built in 1686 nearby.

Mellerud Municipality

Mellerud Municipality (Melleruds kommun) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County by Lake Vänern in Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Mellerud. The amalgamation leading to the present municipality took place in 1969 when "old" Mellerud (instituted as a market town in 1908) was merged with Bolstad, Kroppefjäll and Skållerud. Before the municipal reform of 1952 there were ten entities in the area.

Vänersborg Municipality

Vänersborg Municipality (Vänersborgs kommun) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Vänersborg. The present municipality was created during the local government reform in the early 1970s. In 1971 the City of Vänersborg became a municipality of unitary type and three years later it was amalgamated with three surrounding municipalities. The number of original local government entities (as of 1863) is eight.

Älvsborg County

Älvsborg County, or Älvsborgs län, was a county of Sweden until December 31, 1998 when it was merged with the counties of Gothenburg and Bohus and Skaraborg to form the county of Västra Götaland. It consisted of the Provinces of Dalsland and the central part of Västergötland with the seat of residence in the city of Vänersborg. The municipalities of Habo and Mullsjö, which were adjacent to the city of Jönköping, ceded from Älvsborg to acced Jönköping County, on January 1, 1999.
