Meinong District

Meinong District is a Hakka district in Kaohsiung, Republic of China (Taiwan). The area has grown tobacco since 1630 and is renowned nationwide for its oil paper umbrellas. These oil paper umbrellas are made mainly by the Hakka population and exported to Japan. The name Meinong originated from Minong (瀰濃), which was the name during the Japanese conqure. But when the local aborigines called it "MALANG", it adpoted the new name Meinong.

Gaoping River

The Kaoping or Gaoping River is a major river in Taiwan. It flows through Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County for 171 kilometres, draining a basin of 3,285 square kilometres, with an average discharge of 241 cubic metres per second . The river rises in forks in the southern part of the central Taiwan cordillera, several of which begin just south of Yushan. These forks combine near Provincial Highway No. 20 and flow southwards, past Liouguei and Gaoshu Townships.

Jiaxian District

Jiaxian is a rural district in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Located far from the coast, the township is regarded as a gateway to Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. Situated at the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 21, Jiaxian's downtown serves as a market center for local farmers and tourists. The most famous local crop is taro. Shops sell taro-flavored ice cream, taro cookies, and other taro products. The township is also known for its bamboo shoots and plums.

1964 Baihe earthquake

The 1964 Baihe earthquake, also known as the Great Baihe earthquake, was a deadly earthquake measured at 6.3 ML, occurred at 20:04 CST (UTC+8) on 18 January 1964 in Baihe Township of Tainan County (now part of Tainan City), Taiwan. The hypocenter of the earthquake was 20 kilometers deep. The earthquake killed 106 people, destroyed 10,924 buildings, and caused a great fire in Jiayi City.

Budai, Chiayi

Budai is an urban township in Chiayi County, Taiwan. Its industry is mainly made up of fishery. http://www. budai. gov. tw/en/en_index. php It was the site where Japanese forces landed and completed the encirclement of Tainan during the Japanese Invasion of Taiwan in 1895.
