Bandon Bay

Bandon Bay is a bay in the Gulf of Thailand in the Surat Thani Province, extending from the Sui cape in Chaiya district in the northwest to the Kanchanadit district to the east. The total coastline is about 100 km. The bay is dominated by the estuary of the rivers Tapi and Phum Duang. The islands of Ko Samui, Ko Phangan and Ko Tao enclose the bay from its eastern side. The bay is relatively shallow, with water depths ranging from 1 to 5 meters.

Tapi River, Thailand

The Tapi (or Tapee) river is the longest river in southern Thailand. The river originates at the Khao Luang, and has a wide estuary into the Gulf of Thailand at Bandon Bay near the town of Surat Thani. It has a length of 230 kilometres . The river drains an area of 5460 km², and in 1997, had an annual discharge of 135.4 m³/s or 4.3 km³ per year.
