Degache

Degache (دقاش) is a Tunisian town and commune situated 12 kilometres north of Tozeur in the region of Djerid. Part of the Gouvernorat de Tozeur, it had a population of 7,426 in 2004. It is the chef-lieu of a délégation bearing its name. The town began as an oasis expolited since Roman antiquity. The ancient city of Thagis is situated a few kilometres away at a place called "El Kriz". The economy of the town is centred on the exploitation of a rich palm plantation, producing deglet nour dates.

Tozeur

Tozeur is an oasis and a city in south west Tunisia. The city is located North West of Chott el-Djerid, in between this Chott and the smaller Chott el-Gharsa. It is the capital of the Tozeur Governorate. With hundreds of thousands of palm trees, Tozeur is a large oasis. The dates that are exported from Tozeur are very well known. In ancient times, before the advent of motorized vehicles, the oasis was important for the transportation through the Sahara, which took place in caravans.

Djerid

el-Djerid "Palm Leaf" is a semidesert region comprising southern Tunisia and adjacent parts of Algeria and Libya. It is characterised by bare pink hills with oases and several chotts (salt pans) (notably Chott el Djerid in Tunisia). Economically the area is important for phosphate mining. Major towns include Gafsa and Tozeur. It remains the principal center of Ibāḍism in North Africa, with remaining Ibāḍī communities on Djerba in Tunisia, in the M'zab in Algeria, and in Jabal Nafusa in Libya.
