Mesudiye, Ordu

Mesudiye, formerly Hamidiye, is a town and district of Ordu Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 28,551 of which 5,665 live in the town of Mesudiye. The district covers an area of 1,100 km, and the town lies at an elevation of 1,308 m . Mesudiye is a large area of hilly countryside, villages and pasture far inland from the Black Sea coast, south-west of the city of Ordu, in the direction of Sivas.

Nicopolis (Pontus)

Nicopolis (Greek: Νικόπολις, "city of victory") was a Roman colony founded by Pompey in 63 BC in the Pontus, at the end of the third Mithridatic War. Today, the city of Koyulhisar stands there.

Battle of Nicopolis (48 BC)

The Battle of Nicopolis was fought in December 48 BC between the army of Pharnaces II of Pontus, the son of Mithdridates VI Eupator, and a Roman army led by Gnaeus Domitius Calvinus. After defeating Pompey the Great and the optimates at Pharsalus, Julius Caesar went to Asia Minor and then to Egypt. In Asia province he left Calvinus in command with an army consisting out of the XXXVI legion, made up out of mainly veterans from Pompey's disbanded legions.

Gölköy

Gölköy is a town and district of Ordu Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The town is located 60 km inland from the city of Ordu on the road to Sivas. According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 66,491 of which 24,162 live in the town of Gölköy. The district covers an area of 415 km, and the town lies at an elevation of 1,054 m .
