Şanlıurfa GAP Airport

Şanlıurfa GAP Airport is an airport in Gölgen, Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. It is located about 34 km northeast of the city of Şanlıurfa, on the road to Diyarbakir, about 20 km southwest of Hilvan. The airport is part of the South East Anatolia project (Turkish: Güney Dogu Anadolu Projesi, known as "GAP"), a regional development project in the area of the Atatürk Dam.

Göbekli Tepe

Göbekli Tepe ("Potbelly Hill") is a Neolithic hilltop sanctuary erected at the top of a mountain ridge in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey, some 15 kilometers northeast of the town of Şanlıurfa (formerly Urfa / Edessa). It is the oldest known human-made religious structure. The site was most likely erected in the 10th millennium BCE and has been under excavation since 1994 by German and Turkish archaeologists.

Battle of Urfa

The Battle of Urfa was an uprising in the spring of 1920 against the French army occupying the city of Urfa (modern Şanlıurfa) by the Turkish National Forces. The French garrison of Urfa held out for two months until it sued for negotiations with the Turks for safe conduct out of the city. The Turks reneged on their promises, however, and the French unit was massacred in an ambush staged by the Turkish Nationalists during its retreat from Urfa.
