Bedford Borough

Bedford is a unitary authority with the status of a borough in the ceremonial county of Bedfordshire, England. Its council is based at Bedford, which is also the county town of Bedfordshire. The borough contains one large urban area, the 71st largest in the United Kingdom that comprises Bedford and the adjacent town of Kempston, surrounded by a rural area with many villages.

Bedford Rural District

Bedford was a rural district in Bedfordshire, England from 1894 to 1974. http://www. visionofbritain. org. uk/relationships. jsp?u_id=10002060&c_id=10001043 The district largely surrounded but did not include the municipal borough of Bedford. It was enlarged in 1934 when it took in the disbanded Eaton Socon Rural District. In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, it was merged with Bedford borough and Kempston urban district to form the new Bedford district.
