Golden Mile (Leicester)

The Golden Mile is a name given to a stretch of the Belgrave Road in Leicester, United Kingdom. The origin of the name is often, mistakenly attributed to the many shops selling gold jewellery. In fact, the name was first used in the late 1960s and early 1970s when a proliferation of yellow-amber traffic lights appeared along a short stretch of road (one mile to be exact). While commonplace now, at the time it was unique in Leicester.

Leicester Belgrave Road railway station

Belgrave, Leicester

Belgrave is an electoral ward and administrative division of the city of Leicester, England, consisting of the Leicester suburb of Belgrave in its entirety. The old Belgrave Village is on the Loughborough Road, to the west of the A46, known at that point as 'Melton Road'.

St Matthew's, Leicester

The St Matthew's estate is an area of inner city Leicester. It lies immediately to the northeast of the city centre and is bounded by the A594 ring road to the southwest, the Belgrave Road to the northwest and Humberstone Road to the southeast. To the northeast it is separated from Belgrave by former railway land. It has a population of approximately 4,000 and is named after the Anglican church of St Matthew's.
