Bury Rural District
Bury was a rural district in Lancashire, England from its establishment in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894, until its abolition in 1933. The district consisted of a number of rural civil parishes near Bury, but did not include Bury itself. It was a successor to the Bury Rural Sanitary District. The Metropolitan Borough of Bury is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester, in North West England. Lying to the north of the City of Manchester, the borough is composed of six towns: Bury, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich, and has a population of 181,900. On the north side Bury bounds the Lancashire districts of Rossendale and Blackburn with Darwen.
