Battle of Fulford

The Battle of Fulford took place at the place identified by Symeon of Durham as the village of Fulford near York in England, on 20 September 1066, when King Harald III of Norway, also known as Harald Hardrada ("harðráði" in Old Norse, meaning "hard ruler"), and Tostig Godwinson, his English ally, fought and defeated the Northern Earls Edwin and Morcar. Tostig was Harold Godwinson's banished brother.

Fishergate

Fishergate is one of the centre wards of York, England. It is situated directly south of the city walls, on the east bank of the River Ouse, north of Fulford. On its north west corner is the confluence point of the Foss and the Ouse. This area is protected from floods by the Foss Barrier. The area between the Ouse and Fishergate is part of the New Walk.

Wentworth College

Wentworth College is a college of the University of York, named after Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford. Originally opened in 1972, since 2002 it has had the distinction of being the only college exclusively housing postgraduate students; though postgraduates can be resident in all colleges at the University. Wentworth has about 460 resident graduate students, and serves as the base for the Graduate Students' Association. The current provost of Wentworth is Russell Yates.

Halifax College

Halifax College is the largest and newest college of the University of York. It was founded in 2001 and is named after Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, the 1st Earl of Halifax. There is a diverse and vibrant student community with a wide range of events and activities for anyone and everyone. It has a great community spirit, whilst having excellent links between both main university campuses thanks to the UB1 shuttle bus.
